Empowering Kids, Nurturing Bonds: Our Story

The Problem: When my son was just 6 years old, I noticed that he grappled with anxiety from time to time. He had a constant fear of being late, and although he was quite the chatterbox, there were moments when he wouldn't open up about his day. These silent struggles stirred a determination in me to equip him with the tools to navigate his emotions in a healthy way, starting at a young age. As a South-Asian/Brown Mom, I grew up journaling alone and not discussing my feelings with my family. I didn’t want the same for my kids.

Research/Testing: That's when we embarked on a journey of journaling together. Every night, we sat down to write, and I witnessed the remarkable transformation it brought to our relationship. Journaling became his sanctuary, a place to express his feelings, and an avenue for us to connect on a deeper level. It even facilitated conversations about challenging experiences, like those times when he'd write about how I, too, had unintentionally hurt his feelings. Those conversations were tough but essential, preventing resentment from taking root.

This practice not only supports his mental health but also instills lifelong healthy habits. It's my solace knowing that I'm giving him the tools to thrive. This is the genesis of us. We tested this on several different families and found the same results.

Did you know that 1 in 5 young people grapple with mental illness, and half of these cases emerge by age 14? (Reference: CAMH website, Transforming mental health for children and youth). We're making strides in discussing mental health, but as parents, we must proactively teach our children how to cope. We can't leave their well-being to chance, letting them potentially form unhealthy habits. I refuse to wait until my son is 14 and grappling with a full-blown panic attack before intervening. I want to equip him with the skills to manage these emotions today.

The Solution: We are designed to help children acquire effective coping mechanisms when they're feeling anxious, nervous, or stressed. We bring parents and children together, for a few moments away from screens, to truly connect. Not only does science support the benefits of journaling, but expressing your feelings means less to hold onto inside and more happiness. The advantages for parents are immeasurable:

🌟 Strengthens Parent-Child Bonds: Journaling and mindfulness exercises bring parents and children closer. Watch your child have fewer yelling matches and tantrums because they’re more connected to you.

🌟 Provides a Lifeline in Stressful Moments: Our toolbox equips parents with a dependable tool for navigating difficult situations.

🌟 Offers Comfort: It assures parents that their children have a healthy outlet when having big feelings.

🌟 Fosters Inclusion: We are inclusive, supporting children who experience these emotions more frequently.

We’re on a mission to destigmatize mental health challenges in children and empower them to cope with life's daily hurdles. Join us in promoting the importance of nurturing emotional well-being in our children from a young age. We’ve designed two products that we’re offering for sale around the globe. We’re based in Canada and offer free shipping in the GTA only.

Testimonials

My favourite time of the day is the few minutes of calm before bed with my 6 year-old.

This time has become even more special with our Mindful Moments journal. What I’ve enjoyed most is the conversation it sparks - we both share parts of our day that we normally wouldn’t discuss amongst chaos and routine.

The other day, she seemed tired and I asked if she would rather listen to a story or go straight to bed but she immediately pulled out her journal.

With so much darkness in the world right now, it’s truly these moments that matter most - mindful moments with my family I will never take for granted.

I loved the Calming Toolbox for my son!
The Calm Down Idea cards are perfectly accessible. I hang them in my kitchen so that we have them nearby for challenging moments.

What’s great about the journaling is that it’s not only for the child but also for parents. My son is excited to write in his journal every night but not only that, he’s equally excited to see what I have to write. He loves to ask questions about my day also. It’s absolutely the perfect way to bond. The toolbox is also a great gift for any parent with a little one.
